THE DEMOCRATIC ODYSSEY: YOU ARE INVITED TO JOIN US AT THE PNYX

THE DEMOCRATIC ODYSSEY

YOU ARE INVITED TO JOIN US AT THE PNYX

for a revival of the ancient Peoples’ Assembly on the slopes of the Acropole

26 September, 2023
16:00-19:00

The "Ariane Condellis" European Programme of the Hellenic Foundation For European & Foreign Policy (ELIAMEP), the European University Institute – School of Transnational Governance, Particip’Action, European Alternatives, DemNext, Mehr Demokratie, and the Democracy and Culture Foundation, is organizing a public event, the European Citizens Assembly, as part of the Democratic Odyssey Project.

Global challenges and rapidly changing technologies carry a heavy toll on democracy. Threatened from within and without by the rise of partisan hyper-polarization, authoritarian buy-in, disinformation and electoral interference,
the EU is feeling the squeeze on all sides.

How can Europe deliver faster, fairer, and more decisive action on issues of planetary importance, while empowering peoples across the continent?

We are embarking on a Democratic Odyssey:  a transnational collective journey to take up this challenge, open to all who would like to join the flotilla.  We believe that part of the solution to restore faith in European democracy lies in creating a standing Peoples’ Assembly For Europe that will become a core part of the landscape of the European Union, made of individuals selected by lot, serving on a rotating basis.

It will debate topics of its own choosing as well as those suggested by the EU institutions and civil society and become visible and popular by meeting all around the continent.

Our big, bold, broad, and inclusive campaign will launch at the Pnyx on 26 September, 2023.
Come with a cushion, an umbrella (for rain or sun) and water.

As we are keen to gather a diverse group of civil society organisations, cultural actors, students, and local inhabitants, feel free to bring and register a guest or “PLUS ONE”
